Extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer fiber-optic microphone

چکیده
In this paper we describe a new fiber-optic microphone developed as a passive acoustic sensor for traffic monitoring and vehicle classification. It is based on a fiber-optic extrinsic Fabry–Perot (FP) microinterferometer coupled to an external membrane for modulating the FP cavity length and a low coherent superluminescent diode as light source. The frequency characteristic as compared with a standard condenser microphone exhibits a sensitivity range of more than 80 dB between 100 Hz and 15 kHz. Initial results are presented demonstrating acoustic monitoring of aircraft via their characteristic noise spectra using downleads of km length.

Chitosan Layer Fabry - Perot Interferometer - Based Optical Fiber Sensor for Cadmium Ion Detection
Optical sensors based on Fabry-Perot interferometer to detect cadmium ions is proposed. The sensor was fabricated by coating the tip of the optical fiber by chitosan. The two chitosan surfaces serve as mirrors which form a Fabry-Perot interferometer. The characterization results indicate that the sensor has a linear response with sensitivity of 0.0884 dBm/ppm with a correlation factor of 0.9665...

Fiber optic interferometers to sense various physical parameters including temperature, strain, pressure, and refractive index have been widely investigated. They can be categorized into four types: Fabry-Perot, Mach-Zehnder, Michelson, and Sagnac. In this paper, each type of interferometric sensor is reviewed in terms of operating principles, fabrication methods, and application fields. Some s...
متن کاملExact analysis of low-finesse multimode fiber extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometers.
A straightforward theory is presented to accurately model the light inferences in a low-finesse multimode fiber extrinsic Fabry-Perot (FP) interferometer. The effect on the fringe visibility of the gap length, sensor structure imperfections, and modal power distributions is explored. The analysis is particularly useful in the design and optimization of sensors that use an extrinsic FP cavity as...

متن کاملReduction of semiconductor laser diode phase and amplitude noise in interferometric fiber optic sensors.
An optical configuration employing two conventional Michelson interferometers and a fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer connected in parallel is used to demonstrate the principle of common mode rejection of both the amplitude and frequency noise of a semiconductor laser. Common mode noise rejection is maximized when the outputs of the two interferometers with matched path imbalance, fringe visibil...
